Room Air Conditioners - No Heat

Issue

  • No Heat
  • Not Heating

Solution

There are a few things that can affect how well the unit heats. Start by checking if the unit is labeled “Supplemental Heat.” These models are designed to support a primary heat source—not replace it. They can raise a room’s temperature by about 10°F and help circulate warm air, but another appliance, such as a small ceramic heater, must provide the main source of heat.

If your unit uses a heat pump system, keep in mind that it gathers heat from outdoors. This process takes time—often up to 24 hours—before you’ll feel a noticeable difference inside. Heat pumps can also struggle to keep room temperatures steady when outdoor temperatures fall below 40°F, because there’s less heat available to transfer.

For all units, double‑check that the thermostat is set to Heat and that the temperature is set higher than the current room temperature.
