Room Air Conditioner - Not Cooling
Issue
- Room Air Conditioner is not cooling
- Room is not cold enough
Applies to
- Room Air Conditioners
Solution
Is this a newly installed unit?
- Make sure your unit is installed correctly according to the installation guide and use and care manual.
- Units should be installed in a well-insulated enclosed room for best performance.
- Ensure nothing is blocking or impeding air flow at the entire front or entire back of the unit.
- Make sure the louvers on the sides are not covered or blocked. Blocking the air flow will cause the unit to struggle to maintain temperature.
Where is the unit located?
- The AC unit will drop the temperature of the air it pulls in by 17-20F degrees before blowing out into the room. If the unit is blowing cold air, then it is working properly.
Is the unit sized correctly for the room?
- If your room is too large for the unit it may not cool properly.
- Please see Air Conditioner - Sizing Guide for more information.
Is the room enclosed and properly insulated?
- The unit will struggle to maintain temperatures if new air is constantly entering the room. Insulation is what helps room maintain the cold. Without proper insulation the unit will struggle to maintain temps. Close all openings (windows, doors, side curtains on the unit, and window framing the unit sits into) in the room where the unit is located.
What is typical temperature of the room?
- The temperature of the room and how well the room is insulated may affect cooling results.
Are there any heat generating appliances in the room?
- The unit will struggle to maintain cooler temperatures if there are large heat producing appliances (examples: pizza oven, computer server, manufacturing machinery) in the room.
Is the Air Directional louvers positions correctly?
- Position louvers for better air distribution. Check for air deflecting back into unit from a wall or ceiling.
When was the last time cleaned the unit?
- Make sure the outside condenser coil is clean and not restricted by bushes, trees, debris or winter covers.
