Refrigerator Runs Too Much
Issue
- Refrigerator is running to much
Applies to
- Refrigerators
Solution
Is this a newly installed unit?
- New refrigerators have more energy efficient compressors that run longer.
- The unit has a variable speed compressor - it's designed to run 100% of the time (while using less energy) Except during the defrost cycle.
- It is normal for it too run faster at times, such as after a defrost cycle.
Has the unit lost power recently?
- It normally takes 8 –12 hours for the unit to cool down completely.
- NOTE: It can take up to 24 hours to stabilize temperatures.
Is the room or outside weather hot?
- The unit may work harder if it is located in an area where there are high temperatures.
Has the door or drawer been left open for a long period of time?
- This allows warm air to leak into the unit and causes the compressor to run faster.
- Make sure the door is closed completely and avoid leaving it open for an extended amount of time.
Which settings are being used?
- Having the temperature set to low could cause compressor to run faster.
- The factory suggested temperature settings for the refrigerator is 37°F and the freezer is 0°F. Acceptable operating temperatures for the refrigerator is 33°F (0.56°C) to 47°F (8.33°C) and the freezer is -6 °F (-21°C) to 6°F (-14°C).
- For more information on how to set your temperature, please refer to your use and care guide.
